Telehealth & Wellness App Investigation

Registration Deadline:

Telehealth & Wellness Apps Offer Convenience—Many Share Your Private Health Data.

The rise of telehealth and wellness apps has made healthcare more accessible than ever. From mental health support to fertility tracking, these platforms promise convenience — but often at the expense of user privacy.

Behind the scenes, many of these companies may be collecting and sharing your private health data with third parties.

Graphic depicting health records are shared

One prominent example is the Flo Health App, a widely used period and fertility tracker. To use Flo, users are asked to provide deeply personal health information — including details about their menstrual cycle, sexual activity, and pregnancy status.

In 2021, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) filed a complaint alleging that Flo shared users’ private health data — including pregnancy information — with third parties like Meta and Google, despite assuring users that their data would remain confidential.

This is not a one-off instance. Many telehealth and wellness companies collect and share users’ sensitive health information, like answers to health questionnaires, without user consent.
