Knox College Data Breach Investigation

Lowey Dannenberg is investigating claims for violations of the common law and state consumer protection statutes by Knox College (“Knox”), as a result of a data breach involving highly sensitive Social Security numbers and driver’s license numbers.

What Happened and What Information Was Involved:

Knox College is a private liberal arts college located in Galesburg, Illinois.

Knox recently announced that on November 24, 2022, it discovered unusual network activity and learned that it was the victim of a ransomware attack. Knox’s investigation revealed that an unknown actor gained access to and obtained data from their network without authorization on or around November 24, 2022. On December 7, 2022, Knox determined that personal information may have been involved.

According to Knox the type of information involved varied by individual, but may have included:

  • Names,
  • Addresses,
  • Dates of birth,
  • Social Security numbers,
  • Driver’s license numbers, and
  • Passport numbers.
