In August 2021, Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation (“Central Hudson”) replaced its 40-year-old legacy billing system with a new billing system. Since this transition, Central Hudson consumers have experienced unpredictable over and under billing, a lack of billing altogether, or untimely billing. In some instances, customers have even experienced higher-than-normal automatic withdrawals from their accounts without warning.
For several months, Central Hudson has been aware of these issues and has yet to remedy the problems surrounding its improper billing practices. Senator Michelle Hinchey and Ulster County Executive Patrick Ryan have both spoken out on the high bills and experiences consumers have had with Central Hudson. On March 17, 2022, a formal investigation into Central Hudson was launched by the State Public Service Commission and as of this date, there are thousands of complaints lodged against Central Hudson relating to its billing practices.
